Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Empowering Knowledge for the Modern Woman

Breast Cancer Awareness Month, commemorated in October, is not just a time for reflection; it is an opportunity for empowerment. In today's world, awareness months have a unique significance for everyone with the power to make a difference.

Awareness months are, at their core, about personal empowerment. They remind us to take charge of our health and well-being. For modern individuals, regardless of gender, this means embracing self-awareness, proactive health choices, and regular check-ups.

For us at Daiichi Sankyo, participation in awareness months goes beyond a checkbox on the calendar. We are committed to not only spreading awareness but also taking proactive steps to educate and empower our employees.

The Importance of Breast Cancer Awareness:

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer for women in the EU. The statistics are staggering: 1 in 11 women are likely to develop breast cancer before the age of 74. This disease does not discriminate by age, race, or socioeconomic status – it can affect everyone, even men. (1)

Early Detection Saves Lives:

Early detection is the cornerstone of breast cancer management. When breast cancer is detected in its early stages, treatment options are generally more effective, and the chances of a full recovery are significantly higher. This is why regular breast self-examinations, clinical breast exams, and mammograms are crucial. (2)

Our Commitment to Employee Education:

At Daiichi Sankyo we believe that knowledge is power. In addition to our commitment to breast cancer awareness, we are proud to offer our employees internal opportunities for education and awareness. We understand that informed employees are better equipped to take care of their health and support their loved ones.

Throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we hosted different awareness talks led by experts that covered topics such as:

Breast Cancer Risk Factors Understanding what factors can increase the risk of breast cancer, such as genetics, age, and lifestyle choices. (3)
Early Detection Methods Educating employees about breast self-examination, possibilities of early detection check-ups and where to get the right information.
Signs and Symptoms Recognizing the common signs and symptoms of breast cancer, such as lumps, changes in breast appearance, and nipple discharge.
Preventive Measures Discussing lifestyle choices that can reduce the risk of developing breast cancer, such as maintaining a healthy diet, regular exercise, and avoiding excessive alcohol consumption.

Together, We Can Make a Difference:

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is not just a time for pink ribbons and fundraisers; it's a time to take action. By spreading awareness, educating ourselves, and prioritizing early detection, we can make a significant impact in the fight against breast cancer.
