Olmesartan

Olmesartan is Daiichi Sankyo's best-selling substance. In fiscal year 2009, the anti-hypertensive medication generated €1.82 billion in sales globally. More than 5 million patients worldwide have been treated with this drug since 2002. Healthcare professionals around the world are demonstrating increasing acceptance of olmesartan, and the molecule is now poised to become the No. 2 medication for treating hypertension in the top seven global markets. Olmesartan has achieved this success as a result of its excellent efficacy in lowering blood pressure along with its placebo-like tolerability profile.

Olmesartan is sold in Europe under the brand name Olmetec®. It is also available in combination with other anti-hypertensive substances: in combination with hydrochlorothiazide in Olmetec Plus® and in combination with amlodipine besylate in Sevikar®. A triple combination containing olmesartan with two additional anti-hypertensives in a single pill is now approved.
